NCC Men's Basketball traveled to Lawrence, Kansas to take on Haskell Indian Nations University on February 1.
The Sentinels started the game off with a 10-0 run and continued to build offensive momentum in the first half. With just under 9 minutes remaining in the first half, NCC had extended their lead to 20 points (28-8). Haskell tried to cut into the Sentinels' lead, but NCC held onto an 18-point lead at the half (44-26).
Haskell came out of halftime with an offensive spark and cut the lead down to single digits in the first five minutes of the second half (46-37). However, the Sentinels hung onto their lead and brought it back up to double digits for the majority of the second half. At the 3-minute mark, Haskell found themselves within striking distance, cutting NCC's lead down to 6 (74-68). Made free throws carried the Sentinels through to their 10-point victory over Haskell Indian Nations with a final score of 82-72.
Matt Lillquist put together an impressive performance with a season-high 21 points, shooting 90% from the field and 75% from beyond the arc. Lillquist also gabbed 12 rebounds securing a double-double.
DJ Hanes led all scorers with 28 points and
Drue Aguilera finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
For Haskell, Jordan Goodwill scored 27 points.
Next, the Sentinels will host Doane College on Wednesday, February 6 at 7p.m.
