NCC Men's Basketball traveled to Yankton, South Dakota to take on Mount Marty College on January 3.
Both teams came out strong and played a tight game with eight lead changes in the first ten minutes of play. A 9-0 run from the Sentinels midway through the first half gave them a double-digit lead (32-22). NCC maintained control for the remainder of the half and went into halftime with a 12-point lead over Mount Marty (49-37).
Two unanswered buckets from NCC gave them their largest lead of the game with 16 points (53-37). Mount Marty slowly began cutting into the lead, by the 11-minute mark, Mount Marty had cut the lead to 2 (59-57). The Sentinels worked to hold onto their lead but Mount Marty would go on to tie the game with a minute and half left to play (79-79). Seven made free throws for NCC in the closing seconds helped to secure their 5-point victory over Mount Marty (88-83).
DJ Hanes led the Sentinels with 41 points.
Drue Aguilera finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
For Mount Marty, Colby Johnson totaled 31 points and 13 rebounds.
Next, the Sentinels will host Emmaus Bible College on Saturday, January 5 at 6p.m.
