OMAHA, NE - The Nebraska Christian College Men's Basketball Team hosted the NAIA DII #17 ranked Mount Marty Lancers at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Lancers came in with a top tier offense that averages 89 points per contest. The Sentinels have been a top defense this year giving up just 72.5 points to their opponents. Mount Marty came out hot and got off to a 10-0 start before Coach Williams got the Sentinels re-focused. NCC would then go on a 16-6 run of their own to tie the game. The first half would continue to waffle back and forth a bit, but the Lancers took a 34-29 lead into the half. The Lancers would continue to have their hands full in the second half because the Sentinels would not go away. NCC worked their way to a 40-42 deficit, but just ran out of steam down the stretch. Each time the Sentinels went on the attack, Mount Marty had an answer. The Lancers would leave Omaha with a 67-56 victory.
Despite the loss, the Sentinels' defense was exceptional. Nebraska Christian held the Lancers to just 67 points, their second lowest point total of the season. Coach Williams was very pleased with his team after the game. "We pride ourselves on the defensive end of the floor and believe that when we defend we can compete with anybody. I'm proud of the guys for doing that today and giving us a chance to win. Mount Marty is a very good team, and it was a fun game ot be a part of." Offensively, the Sentinels were led by
Jeremiah Coleman who put up 16 points on 8-11 shooting off the bench.
Uzi Felix also scored 12 for NCC.
Nebraska Christian will next return to Dubuque to play Emmaus College. In the first game of the season, the Sentinels beat the Eagles 126-53.
