Sentinels Come Up Just Short At Champion Christian

HOT SPRINGS, AR - Nebraska Christian played a very competitive game against Champion Christian College on January 20th, 2020. The Sentinels were on the back end of a 2 game - 3 day road trip looking for the sweep before heading home. The CCC Tigers had other ideas and worked to stay unbeaten at home. The Tigers took advantage of the home court by making the three ball early and often in the first half. However, the Sentinel defense rallied and held the Tigers to just 15 points over the last 11 minutes of the half. Despite a great effort, NCC would trail 33-41 at the half. Down, but never out the Sentinels slowly chipped away at the Tiger lead. Nebraska Christian obtained a 1 point lead in the second half, but could not close the deal. Champion converted a great number of free throws down the stretch to hang on for the 80-74 victory.

Isaiah Collier led the way for the Sentinels with a near triple-double of 12 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Jeff Butler tied for game high score with 16 points including 4 three pointers. Uzi Felix and Jordan Makanjuola each added 12 points to the cause. After the game, Coach Williams was proud of the effort. "We had some guys step up big over the last couple of games and truly compete. We are missing a lot of minutes to injury, but our guys don't use that as an excuse. Each one of them has come to work and done a nice job. We would have liked to have those first few minutes back but this was a great learning experience for us."

The Sentinels move to 10-9 and will host a 16-5 Mount Marty team on January 23rd at D.J. Sokol Arena. Tip-off time for the game is set for 7:00pm.
