SIOUX CITY, IA - Nebraska Christian College Men's Basketball Team got a rare opportunity to play the #1 ranked team in the country on Wednesday, January 8th. The Sentinels were coming off a closely contested game with Bellevue University and hoped to play spoiler to the undefeated Morningside Mustangs. The Sentinels hung tough early with quality defense. However, the shot making of Morningside managed to find a way as the Mustangs stretched out to a comfortable half time lead. The second half was much of the same as Morningside showed why they are deserving of the top ranking. Nebraska Christian played hard and respectable, but ultimately dropped the contest 81-48.
The Sentinels were led in scoring by
LeAnte Mitchell and
Semaj Shepheard who both contributed 8 points, including a pair of three pointers each, off the bench. After the game Head Coach
Willie Williams was still proud of his guys and thankful for the opportunity. "It's not every season you have the opportunity to play a team that is nationally ranked like this and it was great to have our guys compete at that level. I'm very proud of the effort tonight and how far we have come this season. We are a much better team now than when we started and I still think we can get to another level before tournament time."
The Sentinels will host Dordt (Receiving Votes NAIA D2) on Saturday, January 10th at DJ Sokol Arena. Game time is set for 4pm local time.
