NCC Defeats Southwestern Christian in the Regional Championship

NCC Men's Basketball advanced to Regionals in Moore, Oklahoma and faced off with the #2 seed Southwestern Christian University on March 6. 
 
Southwestern Christian started the game off with back-to-back buckets putting NCC down by 5 in the opening seconds of the game. The Sentinels answered with an 8-0, giving them their first lead of the game and sparking their offensive momentum (8-5). An 11-2 run from NCC pushed their lead to double digits for the first time with just under 8 minutes remaining in the first half (30-19). At the half, NCC held on to a 10-point lead over Southwestern Christian (45-35).
 
The Sentinels continued to hold on to their lead but Southwestern Christian continued to remain within striking distance, cutting the lead to 5 with 13 minutes remaining in the half (51-46). NCC held on to a 6-point lead with 4 minutes remaining and managed to outscore Southwestern Christian 13-4 as the half was winding down, extending their lead to 14 points. Back-to-back threes from Southwestern Christian threatened NCC's lead but with only 21 seconds remaining, it was too late for Southwestern Christian. The Sentinels finished with the 7-point win over Southwestern Christian (83-76). With this win, the Sentinels secured the first NCCAA D1 Regional Championship in program history and NCC will continue their historic run by advancing to Nationals next week.
 
Drue Aguilera started off strong going 7-7 from the field including 5-5 from three. Aguilera finished with 26 points leading all scorers. Jordan Makanjuola came off the bench shooting a perfect 6-6 from the field adding 13 points. Kyle Bohuslavsky and Devin Jones each helped to carry the Sentinels and ended with 9 and 8 points respectively.
 
For Southwestern Christian, Darius Madkin scored 21 points.
 
Next, the Sentinels will continue making history by advancing to Nationals for the first time in program history. Nationals will be held at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana on March 13-16.
