The Sentinels Come Up Short Against Kansas Christian
NCC Men's Basketball hosted Kansas Christian College on January 23.
The Sentinels started the game with a 7-0 run. Kansas Christian started to cut into the lead and came within 1-point of NCC in the opening minutes of the game (9-8). The Sentinels answered with a 10-0 run to push their lead up to 11-points (19-8). NCC led by as many as 19 in the first half. Kansas Christian managed to cut the lead to 15 going into halftime (45-30).
NCC held a double-digit lead for the first 9 minutes of the second half, leading Kansas Christian 59-47 with 10:51 remaining. Kansas Christian started to gain some offensive traction and began to cut into the lead. With 2:30 remaining, Kansas Christian gained their first lead of the game (76-75). NCC tied the game wit 1:12 left, however, a layup from Kansas Christian put the Sentinels down by 2 with 7 seconds left. A stolen pass put Kansas Christian on the free throw line with 4 seconds left. Kansas Christian split the pair and gave NCC a chance to put the game into overtime. The Sentinels got a clean look at a three to force overtime; however it rattled out at the buzzer. In the end, NCC suffered the 8-1-78 loss to Kansas Christian.
DJ Hanes led the Sentinels in scoring with 23 points.
Matt Lillquist recorded a double double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
TJ Rivera ended with 16 points.
Kansas Christian's leading scorer was Myron Wright with 20 points.
Next, the Sentinels will travel to Tulsa, OK to take on Oral Roberts University in an Exhibition game on Saturday, January 27 at 4p.m.
