The Sentinels Fall to Mount Marty
NCC Men's Basketball traveled to Yankton, South Dakota to take on Mount Marty College on December 30.
The Sentinels scored the first five points of the game, giving them the early lead. However, back-to-back threes from Mount Marty gave them their first lead of the game. Both teams exchanged buckets for a majority of the first half. Mount Marty managed and 8-2 run, giving them a 7-point lead, with just under eight minutes remaining in the half. NCC tried to cut into Mount Marty's lead, however, at the end of the half, Mount Marty held a 6-point lead over the Sentinels (41-35).
Coming out of the half, NCC quickly found themselves down by double digits, trailing Mount Marty 47-37 with 16 minutes left. The Sentinels worked to regain the lead and went on a 10-2 run, bringing NCC within 2 points of Mount Marty (61-59) with 6 minutes remaining. However, Mount Marty quickly answered with a 10-0 run, pushing their lead back to 12 with 3 minutes left. NCC tried to put themselves back into the game, however, in the end, the Sentinels could not make up the deficit, resulting in their 80-69 loss to Mount Marty.
DJ Hanes recorded a double double with 40 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Lillquist grabbed 11 rebounds and added 6 points. TJ Rivera totaled 10 points and Devin Jones had 9 points.
Mount Marty's leading scorer was Marcus Mathieu with 22 points.
Next, the Sentinels will open the New Year by traveling to Aberdeen, SD to take on Presentation College on Tuesday, January 2 at 5p.m.
