The Sentinels Come Up Short Against Emmaus
NCC traveled to Dubuque, IA to take on Emmaus Bible College on December 9.
Emmaus started out with the early lead in the first quarter. Midway through the first quarter, the Sentinels found themselves down by 6. Three 3 pointers from NCC gave them their first lead of the game with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter. Emmaus answered with back-to-back three's to give Emmaus the 3-point edge over the Sentinels (16-19). NCC started the second quarter on an 8-2 run, regaining the lead with 7 minutes remaining in the half. A buzzer beater from Jerrica Perez tied the game at the half (37-37).
The Sentinels came out of the half in a shooting drought and allowed a 14-2 run during the third quarter, which gave Emmaus a 12-point advantage over NCC (62-50). The Sentinels tried to cut into the lead and managed to close the quarter with 5 unanswered points, cutting the lead to 7 (62-55). In the fourth quarter, NCC tried to cut into the lead, but instead let Emmaus score 12 unanswered points, extending their lead to 18 with 4 minutes remaining in the game. The Sentinels scored 5 consecutive points to end the game, making the final score (84-71).
Alexis Frondarina and Kayla Bloodworth both totaled 25 points on the night, combining for 50 of the Sentinels' 71 points. Along with Bloodworth's career high 25 points she grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked 8 shots. Jerrica Perez totaled 17 points. NCC was without the services of regular starter, Aleita Amparan due to injury.
Emmaus was led by Tiffany Williams and Madison Laib totaling 24 points and 10 rebounds and 24 points and 15 rebounds, respectively.
Next, the Sentinels will travel to Ankeny, IA to take on Faith Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, December 12 at 5p.m.
