On Tuesday, September 24
th, the Nebraska Christian College Women's Soccer Team hosted the Mount Marty Lancers. Both teams battled for the whole 90 minutes, but it was the Lancers that emerged victorious by a count of 3-1.
The Lancers struck early with their first goal just 5:46 into the contest. The Sentinel defense regrouped, and despite being tested several times held firm for the rest of the first half. The NCC home crowd was brought to life by a deep goal that sailed over the head of Mount Marty's keeper and into the back of the net. This was
Jessica Hinde's (SR) first goal of the season and she was assisted by
Madeline Aguilar (FR). The Sentinels went into the half tied at 1-1.
Mount Marty came out of the break much like they started by scoring early in the period. Back to back goals at 53:37 and 56:38 gave the Lancers a 3-1 lead. The Sentinels would make a few runs in the second half but were unable to finish them off with goals. With the win, the Lancers improve to 2-1-0 on the season and will face #13 Midland University on the 28
th.
After the loss, the Sentinel Coaching Staff was extremely encouraged by the performance. They commented on how much improvement they've seen from the first game until now, and how the girls are really coming together as a unit. Additionally, Coach Tosaya praised the resiliency of his group. "These girls play hard every minute of every game. We have been left short-handed due to some injuries this year, so we are asking a lot of some players that are new to this level. I'm very encouraged by their work ethic and effort."
The Sentinels are now 0-3-0 on the year but are looking forward to a match against Manhattan Christian on Saturday, September 29
th at the Springfield Soccer Complex.
