On Friday, October 25th the Sentinel Soccer program continued its rivalry with Lincoln Christian. In the first meeting of the schools earlier this year in Omaha, NE, the Red Lion Women won a double OT thriller and the Sentinel Men secured a 1-0 victory. When the teams played in Lincoln, IL, the script was flipped. The NCC Women won 2-1 and the LCU Men earned a 2-1 victory in OT.
The Men's game was another exciting installment to the Red Lion and Sentinel rivalry. Historically, the schools play each other very tough and often split the season series. The Sentinels were seeking the season sweep on the road, but the Red Lions were up to the task. Lincoln Christian scored at the 32:46 mark. RaShawn Jackson quickly answered back in the 41st minute to tie the game at 1-1 heading into half. Each team had opportunities in the 2nd half, but the tie could not be broken. The teams continued to battle in Overtime, until the Red Lions scored at 96:00 to win the match and split the season series.
The Nebraska Christian College Women were seeking redemption after coming up just short at home earlier this year against Lincoln Christian. The teams traded runs early, but late in the first half, the Red Lions would score a goal and take the 1-0 lead into half. However, the Sentinels would not fold. Senior
Jessica Hinde came alive offensively in the second half scoring 2 goals including the game winner. The first goal was scored at the 59:14 mark and was assisted by
Madeline Aguilar. The game-winning goal was scored at the 61:13 mark and was assisted by
Kelcie Ward and
Naomi Boland. The 2-1 win by the Sentinels is exactly what they wanted to close the regular season.
Nebraska Christian College will be playing in qualifying matches for Nationals at Ecclesia College in Springdale, AR on Saturday, November 2nd. The women will kick-off at 12:00 PM (Noon) and the men will follow at 2:00 PM.
